What is a Maid Cafe? ![]()
Maid cafes are a special kind of cosplay cafe, where employees dress in cute and elegant maid uniforms. Unlike ordinary cafes, employees play the role of cute maid servants, here to serve you, their master. Maids refer to their customers as “Goshujinsama” and “Ojousama”, which means Master and Lady, and keep them company by serving food, and offering direct interaction such as playing games and having conversations. The purpose of the cafe is to make customers feel at-home, and relaxed, through exemplary non-sexual service and taking special care to pamper their patrons.
Maid cafes have especially become popular in Japan, and internationally, over the last decade. This sort of themed cafe caters especially to anime fans, but has attracted many of those simply curious about the experience.
